Mary Veronica Tanzillo, 85, of Toms River, passed away peacefully on the Holy Day of the Assumption of Mary, August 15, 2019.
Mary was born and raised in Jersey City. She lived in Bayonne and Orlando, Florida for many years before settling in Toms River in 2014. Mary had a deep and abiding love for her Catholic faith. On June 21, 1954 she married her husband John and together they raised five children and lived a life full of laughter, highs and lows, but most importantly love.
Mary loved her trips to Atlantic City, playing scratch-offs and slot machines. She enjoyed cooking, the outdoors, TV game shows, movies and all sports. She had a quick wit and fantastic sense of humor. She was an incredible cook and all that knew her will miss her eggballs and other signature dishes that are impossible to replicate!
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, in 2000 and, several siblings. She is leaving her legacy on Earth to her children, Andrew Tanzillo and his wife Barbara, of Hopatcong, Isabell Manara and her husband Keith, of Toms River, Vita Schimes and her husband Todd, of North Carolina, Marie Diaz and her husband Ray, of Florida and, John Tanzillo of Toms River; her siblings, Michael and Bebe Also surviving are her grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas, Christine, Nicole, her precious Matthew that she helped raise, Priscilla, Kaydyn, Lisa, and their spouses who she also loved dearly, and; her great-grandchildren, Julie, Olivia, Lorenzo, Gianni, Logan, Giuliana and an unborn great-grandchild.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, August 21st at 9:30 AM from Spotswood Funeral Home at 475 Main Street, Spotswood, followed by a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial from Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment will be in Holy Cross Burial park, South Brunswick following our Mass. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
