Rodney John Tolson, Jr., 75, of Old Bridge Township, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Rodney settled in Old Bridge in the late 1960's. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. For over 30 years, he was a master welder and boilermaker with Local 5 of the Boilermakers Union of New York City. Before his retirement, Rodney was one of the top expert welders in the New York-New Jersey area and, he also taught welding at the East Brunswick Vocational Technical High School. For many years, Rodney played in various softball leagues in Old Bridge and he holds the distinction of having pitched a no-hitter in fast pitch softball. He was also an avid boater and salt water fisherman.
Predeceased by his sister, Cathy Tolson, he is survived by his children, April Zelinskas and her husband Robert, of Manalapan, Michele McNulty and her husband Christopher, of Old Bridge and Kimberly Silva and her husband Gregory, of Old Bridge; his siblings, Elaine Cicora, Sally Penston, Linda Berthelon, James Tolson and, Joan Shannon, and; his grandchildren, Michael Zelinskas, Christopher and Rita McNulty and Jaden Silva.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at Lester Memorial Home, 16 West Church Street, Jamesburg, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Spotswood Funeral Home.
