Charlotte (Sheridan) Hoffman, 94, of Spotswood passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021, in Cranbury Township. Born and raised in Newark, Charlotte also lived in Sayreville and East Brunswick before settling in Spotswood. As a child, Charlotte loved to spend her time her at The Paramount Theatre in Newark. She would boast that back in her day, it would only cost a dime to get her a double-feature and a pretzel. She loved movie going and a family tradition was watching the latest release on VHS at her home on Christmas Day.
Charlotte enjoyed gardening and was most proud of her roses. Any new visitors to her house couldn’t leave without the garden tour which included the roses and her victory garden where she grew huge zucchini and tomatoes. The gladioli in the front yard would signal spring and was a favorite backdrop for photos.
Her backyard pool was a gathering place for family. Many memories were made each summer grilling and swimming at Grandma’s house as well as walks to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal.
Charlotte had a passion for animals and loved her pets dearly. She had a few favorites including a mutt named Princess, a big white cat named Fluffy, and a Golden Retriever named Brandy (after her favorite drink, a Brandy Alexander) who would fetch three tennis balls at a time from the pool. She often said if she grew up in a different era, she would have become a veterinarian.
Charlotte was happiest with her beloved husband, Jerry, by her side. They spent their free time at the Moose Lodge in South River cutting a rug on the dance floor and socializing with friends. They enjoyed weekends at their camper nestled amongst the Blue Ridge mountains at Camp Charles in Bangor, Pennsylvania. It was here that her grandkids honed their billiard skills while dropping Grandma’s quarters into the jukebox for their favorite tunes.
Birthdays and special occasions often meant a visit to Red Lobster where she loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed “Lobster Fest.”
For many years, Charlotte worked as a Sales Associate for Macy's in Brunswick Square Mall, East Brunswick. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, reading, and listening to Elvis Presley.
