Juan M. Mendoza, 73, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2020 at his home in Hampton, Virginia.
Born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico, Juan was raised in Brooklyn, New York and also lived on Staten Island, New York before settling in Virginia in 2016. He was a retail sales manager with several department stores in the New York City area before retiring in the mid 2000's. He enjoyed watching softball, fishing and crabbing, yard work and gardening and, taking trips back to Puerto Rico. Juan was the "fun uncle" who enjoyed dancing and listening to oldies and Motown music. He also loved spending time with all of his family and, especially with his grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, Candelario and Juana and his brother Mendy, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maria Lugo-Mendoza; his sons, John Mendoza and his wife Wanda of Parlin, and David Mendoza of Brooklyn, NY, his stepchildren, Louie Ramirez, Xiomara Ortiz, Jessica Mullins and her husband William and Lily Gonzalez; his siblings, Junior Mendoza, Patricia Gomez, Lydia Mendoza and Aida Mateo; his grandchildren, John, Jr., David, Justin, Matthew, Kaylee, Jonathan, Ashley, Cassidy, Nadia, Daniel, Annelise and Shayna, and; his great-grandchildren, Alia, Mariah, Alexandra and Jalisa.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 15th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. A private cremation will follow. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions placed on gatherings and activities, all current guidelines are to be observed during visitations, including the use of face coverings and social distancing.
