Marie Josephia Markheim, 96, of the Rossmoor community of Monroe Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, January 22, 2021 at Allegria at the Fountains in Atco, where she had been under care for Alzheimer’s.
She was born in New York City, New York on August 21, 1924 and raised in Jersey City and Spotswood, where she later raised her own family. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and PTA in Spotswood, later relocating to Rossmoor. She was an avid gardener, and accomplished cook, and an amateur poet. She traveled widely and was diligent in maintaining her heritage and ties with relatives in Switzerland and Germany. A determined individual, she overcame many disadvantages in her youth during the depression and war years to better herself and provide for her family. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her husband, Sigmund Markheim, her daughter, Susan Roma, and a granddaughter Laura Markheim. She is survived by her daughter Nancy J. Phillips and her husband Nicholas of Lambertville and her sons, Richard Markheim and his wife Jane of Albany, Georgia and Mark Markheim of Los Angeles, California; grandsons, Eric Markheim and his wife Yvonne of Lake City, Florida, Peter M. Romaskiewicz and his wife Camile Savedra of San Diego, California, Todd Roberts and his wife Deidre Kile of Evergreen, Colorado, and granddaughter Jill Duffy of Lambertville; great grandchildren Taylor Lynn Frenette, Saylor & Liam Duffy of Lambertville, and Brooklynn and Chloe Roberts of Evergreen, Colorado.
