Robert G. Kelly, 88, of Spotswood passed away in his home on September 28, 2022.
Robert was born in Jersey City but his family resided in West New York. When they were still a young family, they would eventually move to Spotswood to take advantage of its idyllic location. Robert and his two sisters, Denise and Carole, enjoyed life on the lake, and fishing would become one of Robert’s many pastimes. He was a devoted collector of model trains and a very avid bowler, the latter of which won him awards and local prestige.
Robert Kelly was a dedicated citizen of his country and of his borough of Spotswood. After naval service during the Korean War, he stayed on with the reserves for a few more years. He worked at Spotswood’s Schweitzer-Mauduit cigarette paper plant but balanced that with being a lifetime member of the Spotswood Fire Department. In his elder years, he continued to serve his community through his work at the local recycling yard, which he continued until 2020.
Robert Kelly preferred a quiet life. He stayed at his family home until his death. His sister, Denise, passed in 2020. He is survived by his sister Carole and his nephews Ray, Timothy, and his niece Michelle.
At this time, the family will have a private memorial with a later memorial to be announced at the time of interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Robert's memory may be made to the Spotswood Enterprise Hook and Ladder at 495 Main Street, Spotswood, NJ 08884.
